Patient Notice

Sorrento Medical Centre is a mixed billing practice where our Doctors will be charging private fees for all consultations.

We provide excellent facilities for our Doctors so as to deliver the best primary healthcare to the community.

Managing COVID and Respiratory Illness at Home Most people with Respiratory Illness can care for themselves with some support from their GP.

Having a “kit” with some essential items will help to manage your symptoms and also assist your GP in assessing your wellbeing.

We recommend the following:

  • A thermometer
  • Medication to relieve pain and fever (eg Paracetamol or Ibuprofen)
  • Enough of your regular medicines
  • Masks, hand sanitizer, gloves
  • Oral rehydration solutions (eg Gastrolyte/Hydrolyte) especially if you have children at home
  • Lozenges or throat spray to assist with sore throat symptoms
  • A pulse oximeter can be helpful to monitor your oxygen levels if you can afford this. Most pulse oximeters are not suitable for children.

Triage

Reducing the spread of Respiratory Illness in our community is essential and part of this is having an effective triage system when attending a doctor’s surgery.

This ensures we make the most appropriate type of appointment for you, whilst reducing the risk of spreading Respiratory Illness to others.

When you phone to make an appointment and on arrival at the clinic for your appointment, you will be asked a series of questions by our dedicated reception team.

These questions are updated as required. They may include:

  • Do you have fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose or cold and flu-like symptoms?
  • Have you attended any current “hotspots” (if present)

Personal Protective Equipment

The main value of wearing a mask is to protect other people. If used correctly, masks may prevent sick people from infecting others.

This is of particular importance because many patients with Respiratory Illness have NO symptoms or very mild symptoms and respiratory illness/airborne
Illness can be highly contagious.

Wearing a face mask is also a very community-minded and selfless practice which can help to protect you and others around you.
