Managing COVID at Home Most people with COVID-19 can care for themselves with some support from their GP.
WA COVID Care at Home delivers home monitoring care for COVID-positive people who require it due to having risk factors which put them at greater risk of requiring hospitalisation. This is a free service. You will need to register for the service following this link.
Having a “kit” with some essential items will help to manage your symptoms and also assist your GP in assessing your wellbeing.
We recommend the following:
Triage
Reducing the spread of COVID in our community is essential and part of this is having an effective triage system when attending a doctor’s surgery.
This ensures we make the most appropriate type of appointment for you, whilst reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19 to others.
When you phone to make an appointment and on arrival at the clinic for your appointment, you will be asked a series of questions by our dedicated reception team.
These questions are updated as required. They may include:
If you answer yes to any of these questions, you will be asked have you been tested for COVID-19 and do you have a negative result.
If you DO NOT have a negative COVID-19 result and have answered yes to our triage questions, you will be offered a telehealth consultation in the first instance.
If you have a negative COVID test result, a face-to-face appointment is possible if preferred.
Either way, our team will ensure that you get the health care that you need.
Please see our ‘Telehealth’ section under services for further information.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work together to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
Upon arrival at the surgery you (and anyone who attends with you) will be triaged by a reception team member and asked these same questions.
You and anyone who attends with you will be required to scan the “Safe WA” app or register at our triage station. The WA Health Department uses
your information for contact tracing purposes only.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work with you to keep us all safe.
Personal Protective Equipment
Masks
The main value of wearing a mask is to protect other people. If used correctly, masks may prevent sick people from infecting others.
This is of particular importance because many patients with COVID-19 have NO symptoms or very mild symptoms.
Wearing a face mask is also a very community-minded and selfless practice which can help to protect you and others around you.
Single-use Masks
Use masks made with a non-woven, melt blown polypropylene layer. Don’t use masks with holes or a valve, as you will breathe out the virus if you have COVID-19.
Be aware of fake masks and only purchase single use masks from reputable retail outlets including chemists, supermarkets and other shops. As a health care worker
if you require a medical-grade mask you should only wear compliant masks.
